The unit i.e. sliding unit (1), has a displaceable element (3) e.g. door or window, held over first- and second set of resilient tensile traction cables, where opposite ends (11, 12) of the displaceable element are attached to the traction cables such that the first set of cables transfer a tensile force on the displaceable element during closing. The first set of cables acting in an opening direction (5) and the second set of the cables acting in a closing direction (6) are wound on and unwound from a common shaft in opposite directions. The cables are installed under tension.
