The invention relates to a sweeping machine, comprising: a running gear for moving on a floor surface (16); a sweeping roller (20), which sweeps according to the overthrow sweeping principle, for cleaning the floor surface (16); a coarse swept material cover (32), which has a sweeping sill (38), the sweeping sill (38) being mounted in front of the sweeping roller (20) in a main movement direction (24) of the sweeping machine (10; 70; 80; 90; 100; 110; 130; 140) and partially covering the sweeping roller (20) when the coarse swept material cover (32) is in a covering position; and an actuation unit (44) for transferring the coarse swept material cover (32) from the covering position to a release position. In order to provide such a sweeping machine that is more user-friendly, the sweeping machine (10; 70; 80; 90; 100; 110; 130; 140) according to the invention comprises a sensor unit (56) and a control unit (52) functionally connected to said sensor unit and to the actuation unit (44), coarse swept material (42) can be detected by means of the sensor unit (56) and a sensor signal can be provided to the control unit (52), and the actuation unit (44) can be actuated by the control unit (52) depending on the sensor signal.
