The present invention relates to a methodfor obtaining a finished or semi-finished article based on zirconia. The surface of the article has a metallic appearance and a non-zero electrical conductivity. The method is characterized by comprising steps of obtaining at least one zirconia article preformed in its finished or semi-finished form; placing the article in a chamber in which a mixture of hydrogen and carbon/nitrogen gas is heated; heating the article and the gas mixture by means of at least one resistive element traversed by an electric current until the dissociation of the hydrogen andcarbon/nitrogen gas molecules and an increase in the temperature of the article; and maintaining the article in the generated reactive atmosphere to have a diffusion of carbon/nitrogen atoms in the outer surface of the article.
