An assembly (98) for an electronic locking system (156), the assembly (98) comprising a stationary structure (100); a shaft (112) arranged to rotate within the stationary structure (100) about a rotational axis (60); and a release mechanism (10) arranged to release a spring force induced by rotation of the shaft (112) to an output member (16); wherein the shaft (112) extends through the stationary structure (100) along the rotational axis (60) such that a handle can be fixed to the shaft (112) at each side of the stationary structure (100). An electronic locking system (156) comprising an assembly (98) is also provided.
