A motor vehicle 1 is disclosed having a safety system 10 that includes an electronic controller 15 controlling an electronically controlled mechanism 12 in response to inputs from a number of rear parking sensors 16 to prevent movement of a rear closure 5 of the motor vehicle 1 in a closing direction when more than one object is sensed to be within a rear protection zone PZ and the rear closure member 5 is in a fully open position.
