The core panel (10) having an upper surfacing layer (12), with mechanical interlocking (14, 16, 18, 20) on opposite edges, is made of a mineral material. A reinforcing material is embedded in the core. The core is made of gypsum, cement and/or powdered stone. The reinforcement is made from cellulose fibers, waste paper, textile fibers, glass or carbon fibers and occupies 5-25% by volume. The tongues and grooves are modified for additional interlocking, in both parallel and perpendicular directions with respect to the joins.
