In order to improve the safety of persons working on railway lines, the present invention proposes a guard rail, comprising a protection barrier with at least one upright and one arm mounted on the upright of the barrier and provided with an end for attaching the barrier to a rail of the railway line, characterised by the fact that the height of the upright of the barrier can be adjusted and the attachment arm is arranged to have an adjustable length and is shaped such that the rail attachment end and the upright of the barrier can be arranged to either side of a rail.
