METHOD OF USING A SUPERHYDROPHOBIC AND STRONGLY OLEOPHILIC ABSORBENT PRODUCT
An oil absorbent product in the form of calcined granulate whose main constituent is diatomaceous earth having thin walled tubes where typically 90% of the tubes have a diameter of less than 1 micron, where the product has a superhydrophobic oleophilic surface coating of polysiloxane permanently chemically crosslinked to the substrate. The product can be arranged in a filter bed, housing or cartridge and used to remove oil contamination from a process water stream or oil spill or the like.
