The invention relates to a device for generating a standing wave, which comprises a wave tank, a water return duct and a compartment. The wave tank comprises a wave zone and an intake zone, the intake zone being situated behind the wave zone and being connected to the water return duct notably in a manner communicating therewith. The water return duct is connected to the compartment notably in a manner communicating therewith, the compartment having an evacuation device which has an evacuation orifice through which the water can be conducted to the wave tank.
