The invention relates to steel ropes (110) for securing openings and perimeters, and to netting (100) constructed at least partially of steel ropes of this type. Steel ropes used for alarmed security have signal wires or fibre optics in their interior. These are enclosed by laid premium steel wires. The invention also relates to barbed wire, razor wire and/or security fences comprising steel ropes of this type and/or netting constructed at least partially of steel ropes of this type. The netting can be used in isolation or in addition to existing mesh netting.
