The invention relates to a sensor system (1) for surroundings monitoring. The sensor system (1) has at least two capacitive sensors (2, 3), each of which has at least one sensor electrode (4, 5, 6, 7)designed for capacitive surroundings measurement, each sensor (2, 3) has a detection region (8, 9), in which a capacitive effective change of the surroundings, in particular due to the approach and/or contact of objects or objects, can be detected, and the detection regions (8, 9) of at least two sensors (2, 3) form a final monitoring region (10). In order to ensure a more reproducible, more deterministic and more reliable output: it is proposed that the detection regions (8, 9) of the adjacent sensors (2, 3) overlap locally and/or are directly adjacent, so that the finally obtained monitoring region (10) is coherent and the coherent monitoring region (10) forms at least part of a particularly completely monitored, predetermined safety geometry (11).
