Disclosed is a traffic signage system (1) on a roadwork vehicle (7) having a defined width, said system (1) comprising two main display assemblies (2, 3) (5, 6), i.e. a first assembly (2, 3) consisting of road signs and a second assembly (5, 6) consisting of a luminous display, the first assembly (2, 3) being confined within the width of the vehicle (7) and comprising a stationary vertical lower section (2) and an upper section (3) that can pivot along a horizontal transverse axis between a deployed position, in which the upper section (3) extends vertically from and parallel to the lower section (2), and a retracted position, in which the upper section (3) is folded in the direction of the front and tilted in relation to the plane of the lower section (2). According to the invention, the second assembly (5, 6) includes a first, stationary portion (6) that is secured to the lower section (2) as well as a second portion (5) that is secured to the upper section (2), the first, stationary portion (6) being disposed substantially towards the top of the lower section (2) and parallel to the upper edge thereof (2), the second portion (5) being horizontally laterally translatable parallel to the plane of the upper section (3) in order to be able to laterally protrude beyond the width of the vehicle (7), between a neutral position in which the second portion (5) is disposed so as to face the upper section (3) within the width of the vehicle (7), and a laterally protruding position in which the second portion (5) laterally protrudes beyond the width of the vehicle (7).
