The invention relates to a coating system on building facades, in particular composite thermal insulation systems, comprising a reinforcing fabric for insertion into a viscous coating material applied as a reinforcing layer to a substrate belonging to the building facade. The invention further relates to a method for producing such a coating system. The aim of the invention is for the coating system to have a lower risk of cracks forming in the reinforcing layer and, furthermore, for the coating system to also be lighter and simpler to produce. This aim is achieved, according to the invention, in relation to apparatus in that the coating system has an additional tube mat (4) which is inserted into the reinforcing layer (2) and rests over the entire surface against the substrate (5, 6) of the building facade. The tube mat (4) is formed from plurality of hollow bodies (41) which are firmly connected to one another and each have a tubular structure, and the reinforcing fabric (1) covers the tube mat (4) on the side thereof facing away from the substrate.
