The invention relates to a heating device (1) with the following features: a heating unit (11) for heating a liquid, a flow conduit (41), connected to said heating unit (11), for conducting the heated liquid via a connectable central heating conduit (40) to at least one connected heat consumer (43), a return flow conduit (42), connected to said heating unit (11), for recycling the cool liquid originating from the heat consumer (43) from said connectable central heating unit (40), an individual water supply conduit (30), a filling conduit (31) which connects the individual water supply conduit (30) to the flow conduit (41) or to the return flow conduit (42) in order to supply mains water, a filling valve (13) for controlling the flow of the liquid through the filling conduit (31), a pressure sensor (16) attached to the flow conduit (41) or the return flow conduit (42) in order to measure the pressure of the liquid, and a processor unit (20) connected to said pressure sensor (16) in order to evaluate the measurement data provided by the pressure sensor (16). Said processor unit (20) is characterised in that it is configured to execute the following steps in an automatic feed mode: monitoring of the measured liquid pressure, opening of the aforementioned filling valve (13) if it has been determined that the measured filling pressure falls below a previously defined first threshold value, closing the filling valve (13) if it has been determined that the measured filling pressure exceeds a previously defined first threshold value, and closing the filling valve (13) after it has been determined that a previously defined first time period has elapsed after the opening of the filling valve.
