A thermoelectric conversion material made of a sintered body containing a magnesium silicide as a major component includes: a magnesium silicide phase (12); and a magnesium oxide layer (13) formed on a surface layer of the magnesium silicide phase (12), in which an aluminum concentrated layer (14) having an Al concentration higher than an aluminum concentration in an inside of the magnesium silicide phase (12) is formed between the magnesium oxide layer (13) and the magnesium silicide phase (12), and the aluminum concentrated layer (14) has a metallic aluminum phase (15) including aluminum or an aluminum alloy.
