The invention relates to a locking device for fastening a belt of a sliding door system, the locking device comprises a housing in which an actuator and a travel device are accommodated, the travel device is linearly displaceable in the housing by means of the actuator, a guide mechanism is provided on the travel device, the guide mechanism is guided in a first guide chute, a locking slide is arranged in or on the housing, the locking slide can be moved towards the belt into a locking position and can be moved away from the belt into a release position, a second guide chute is formed in the locking slide, and a pawl is accommodated on the locking slide, the pawl is designed to engage in the belt and is displaceable on the locking slide in the direction of extension of the belt. According to the invention, the first guide chute has a section extending obliquely towards the pawl, whereby a ramp is formed in the first guide chute, such that the pawl is further pressed towards the belt in the locking position in such a way that the guide mechanism moves towards the ramp when a tensile force is applied to the belt in the locking direction.
