A mechanically programmable lock cylinder has a rotor and a stator having a plurality of tumbler holes for accommodating tumbler-counter tumbler pairs. In at least one of said tumbler holes, a tumbler element (2) is inserted, which comprises at least a main body (21), which defines a tumbler axis which coincides with an axis of the holes, and comprises a programming-part assembly. The main body has a radially inner end part (21) which protrudes into the keyway in order to feel a coding of the key. The main body also comprises a plurality of predetermined breaking points (25). The programming-part assembly is retained by the main body and has at least one separating joint. The programming-part assembly can be slid relative to the main body along the tumbler axis, such that the separating joint (39) can be aligned selectively with one of the predetermined breaking points (25).
