The invention relates to an apparatus for utilizing desert sand, comprising a treatment device which is characterized by an optical concentrator device (1) serving as a heating device, said concentrator device trapping solar radiation in such a quantity and deflecting it in a caustic (24) such as to attain therein a temperature level at least high enough to melt the silicon-containing particles contained in the desert sand.
