A ladder guard 1 comprising an elongate mesh plate 2 having a front face and a rear face 4, and one or more hooks 7, 22 projecting rearwardly from the rear face for releasably engaging with a ladder rung. The plate may comprise a rigid border around the mesh. The guard may comprise first and second hooks spaced apart along an elongate axis of the plate. The hooks may each comprise a shank 23 and a foot 24 formed from a single bent piece. The foot of the second hook may be longer than that of the first. Two parallel rails 5, 6 may project rearwardly from the plate to demarcate a slot between each rail and one or more of the hooks so a ladder stile can be received in the slot. The plate and the rails may be formed from a single bent piece. The guard may comprise a tamper resistant bolt extending between coaxial apertures in the first hook and the plate to restrict movement of the guard in a direction parallel to the rear face when engaged with a ladder. The guard restricts unauthorised access to a ladder.
