The invention relates to a siphon (1) for a drain, more particularly a shower drain, comprising a supply opening (2) with a supply opening cross section (3) having a supply opening cross-sectional area (3a), a siphon portion (4) with a siphon cross section (5) and a siphon cross-sectional area (5a) and a drain opening (6) with a drain cross section (7) and a drain cross-sectional area (7a). Liquid can be added to the siphon through the supply opening (2) and the liquid can be drained from the siphon (1) through the drain opening (6). The siphon portion (4) connects the supply opening (2) and the drain opening (6). A transition (8) is arranged between supply opening (2) and siphon portion (4), wherein the supply opening cross-sectional area (3a) is greater than the siphon cross-sectional area (5a). The siphon cross section (5) is constant over the siphon portion (4).
