Casing (20, 22) for a gate (14) for controlling access to an area, comprising: - a movable obstacle (28), - a motor assembly (22) driving said obstacle, - a shaft (62) coupled to said obstacle and driven in rotation by said motor assembly so as to hold the obstacle (28) in an obstructing position or move the obstacle so as to allow access, according to a current instruction, - a control unit (68) to make the motor obey the current instruction, - a sensor (15) measuring the angular position of the shaft, the control unit (68) is designed so as, when the obstacle is held in the obstructing position, to calculate temporal variations in angle on the basis of said measurements of the sensor, and so as, on the basis of said variations, to trigger an increase, a reduction or a limitation of an instruction for the applied torque to hold the obstacle in the obstructing position or an instruction to allow access.
