The invention relates to a track-laying machine for working on a track comprising at least one processing unit, a power supply unit (22) and an energy store (29). When the track is being processed by means of the at least one processing unit, the energy store (29) is charged if a maximum power (PMAX) that can be drawn from the power supply unit (22) is greater than the power consumed (PB) by the at least one processing unit, and discharged if the maximum power (PMAX) that can be drawn from the power supply unit (22) is less than the power consumed (PB) by the at least one processing unit.
