The invention relates to a method and a civil engineering structure for forming a barrier which runs at least partly underground, comprising a heat-insulating insulating wall (1) and a separating wall (12), wherein the separating wall (12) follows the course of the insulating wall (1) and is arranged between the insulating wall (1) and an area (13) to be detached. The area (13) to be detached is designed to store a heat-transfer medium, such as water or hot water (14), the civil engineering structure is designed as a large heat accumulator, in particular a hot water tank, and the insulating wall (1) comprises bored pile bores which are filled with a heat-insulating material (2).
