The invention relates to a flat key (1) for a cylinder lock, comprising at least one encoded lateral surface (23) running along the longitudinal extension of the flat key (1) and with control points arranged along the longitudinal extension, wherein at least one milled notch (6) with a first depth is provided substantially normal to the lateral surface (23) at at least one control point, wherein a recess (7) with a second depth is provided substantially normal to the lateral surface (23) at least in the region of this control point, wherein the milled notch (6) and the recess (7) are arranged offset to one another transverse to the longitudinal extension of the flat key (1), and wherein the second depth is smaller, preferably max. half the size of the first depth.
