MODULAR BUILDING CONSTRUCTION ELEMENTS AND METHOD
The floor element, particularly for a modular building, comprises a generally planar orthogonal framework including at least two edge beams of composite material and a plurality of joists 113 projecting from at least one of the beams and accommodated in a cavity between upper deck boarding 120 and lower base boarding 121, the cavity sealed to restrict moisture ingress. The beams, joists and boarding may comprise the same composite material, preferably fibre (e.g., glass fibre) reinforced plastics. The boarding may be bonded to the beams by a continuous line of adhesive, optionally epoxy resin. The edge beams and joists may comprise C-sections or hollow rectangular or square sections, optionally two or more stacked together. The cavity and/or the hollow beams may contain insulation 145. There may be an upstanding tongue on one or more edge beams and/or support members on the upper boarding to support an upright panel in use.
