The invention relates to a device for braking a mobile glass panel (5) of a laboratory fume hood (H), comprising a magnetic compensator (31) and means (15, 17a, 17b, 19) for connecting to a system (7a, 7b, 7c, 11) forming a counterweight to said glass panel (5). According to the invention, said magnetic compensator (31) is an electromagnet, the braking being carried out when the electromagnet is not supplied with electrical energy, and being released when the electromagnet is supplied with electrical energy.
