CHEMICAL VAPOR INFILTRATION TOOLING FOR OPTIMIZING INFILTRATION IN CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITES
A tooling fixture (12A) suitable for use in infiltrating a fibrous preform (14) with a flow of reactant gas includes at least one wall (20A). The at least one wall (20A) includes an outer surface (26A) and opposing inner surface (24A) defining a thickness (TA) therebetween, and a plurality of holes (22A) extending through the thickness (TA). Each hole (22A) of the plurality of holes (22A) includes an inlet (28A) at the outer surface (26A), an outlet (30A) at the inner surface (24A), a transition point (32A) between the inlet (28A) and the outlet (30A), and a first corner (34A) defined by the outer surface (26A) and the inlet (28A). An angle of the first corner (34A) is less than 90 degrees, each hole (22A) of the plurality of holes (22A) has a first diameter (D1) at the inlet (28A) and a second diameter (D2) at the outlet (30A), and the second diameter (D2) is less than the first diameter (D1).
