A building has an elevator shaft and elevator cars to which access is provided by two sets of parallel sliding doors moving on rollers (20, 21, 26) that engage with overhead rails (10). The rail has a box section (11) containing track (12, 22) with an exposed surface (13, 14, 23, 24). The box section has one length (11a) in which the running surface is exposed towards the elevator shaft, but is screened from a point outside the shaft. The track (12, 22) and box section (11) are formed from a single piece of bent sheet metal.
