Elemento de fijación para su uso en la fijación de un aislante a un sustrato, comprendiendo un cuerpo de elemento de fijación (2) que tiene una cabeza (4) para acoplarse con una cara exterior del aislante, un vástago tubular (6) que se extiende hacia dentro desde la cabeza para penetrar a través del aislante y acoplarse con el sustrato, teniendo el vástago una parte de punta afilada alejada de la cabeza para penetrar el aislante y siendo el vástago hueco para recibir un pasador de fijación (10) que tiene un extremo afilado totalmente encerrado dentro del vástago adyacente a la punta, siendo el interior del vástago adecuado para recibir una guía de elemento de fijación de una herramienta de fijación que funciona para meter el pasador en el sustrato mediante un pistón impulsor propulsado a lo largo de la guía de elemento de fijación por presión de gas al poner en marcha la herramienta, siendo el elemento de fijación adecuado para ser montado en la guía de elemento de fijación antes de su penetración en el aislante, por lo que la penetración del vástago en el aislante se produce por presión manual aplicada por un operario en la herramienta antes de poner en marcha la herramienta para meter el pasador en el sustrato, caracterizado por que la superficie externa del vástago incluye una serie de aletas que se extienden generalmente de manera axial al vástago y que se extienden longitudinalmente a lo largo de la longitud del vástago para asegurar un desplazamiento uniforme del material aislante durante la penetración.
A fastener for use in fastening insulation to a substrate, comprising a fastener body having a head for engagement with an outer face of the insulation, a tubular stem extending inwardly from the head for penetration through the insulation into engagement with the substrate, the stem having a pointed tip portion remote from the head for penetration of the insulation and the stem being hollow to receive a fastening pin having a pointed end fully enclosed within the stem adjacent the tip, the interior of the stem being adapted to receive a fastener guide of a fastening tool operative to drive the pin into the substrate by means of a driving piston propelled along the fastener guide by gas pressure on firing of the tool, the fastener being mounted to the fastener guide prior to penetration of the insulation whereby penetration of the insulation by the stem occurs by manual pressure applied by an operator to the tool prior to firing of the tool to drive the pin into the substrate, the external surface of the stem including an array of fins extending generally axially of the stem to ensure uniform displacement of the insulation material during penetration.
