A wear member (106) for excavating equipment, with a front end to engage the material to be excavated, a rear end with a mounting part (108) that overlies a support structure (102) secured to the excavating equipment, a hole (110) defined in the mounting part and having a first portion (110a), extending through the mounting part to receive a wedge (350) and spool (200) locking system to hold the wear member (106) to the support structure (102), and a second portion (110b) having a ledge (112a), to receive a part of the spool (200) without urging the spool (200) in any direction transverse to the first direction so that the ledge (112a) holds the spool (200) in place prior to insertion of the wedge (350) into the hole (110). Thanks to the invention, a tight fit of the wear member on the support structure is ensured.
