The invention relates to a method for dry-method manufacture of a diboride powder MB2, wherein M is a chemical element belonging to group 4 of the periodic table, from the reduction of an oxide MO2 of the element M according to the reaction MO2 + B2O3 + yR + xA2O → MB2 + A2xRyO5+x, wherein R is a reducing element selected from Al, Si, Ti, Zr, Hf, Y, Sc and the lanthanides and A2O is an oxide of an alkali element A. The invention also relates to a powder obtained by means of said method.
