Safety Door
A bi-directional safety door assembly includes a door frame with a door leaf hingedly mounted in the frame so as to be openable in a first direction. The hinged mounting 20 of the door leaf is located on a doorpost 15 mounted to be pivotable about an axis 25 parallel to and spaced from the hinged door mounting. The doorpost can thus pivot between a first rotational position in which the door leaf is openable in one direction only from its closed arrangement, and a second rotational position in which the leaf edge remote from the hinge is pulled away from the frame, enabling the door to be pulled open in a direction opposite to its normal opening direction. In this way the door can be opened in an emergency even when opening on its normal opening side is prevented by locking or by a heavy object placed against it.
