Acoustic and thermal insulation method for walls of static caravans, residential park homes and leisure homes comprises external aluminium cladding or soft vinyl sheet cladding 104 with a panel formed from layers of a thermal insulation material 101, a high density foam rubber acoustic insulating underlay 102 (as used in flooring), and a water repellent membrane 103. The panel is fitted into a cavity wall constructed from vertical studs and horizontal battens made from timber 106 and interior plywood cladding 105. The wall is designed to meet the requirements of BS3632:2005 relating to sound insulation in residential park homes, specifically the requirement for the external walls to have an average sound reduction index of not less than 35dB over a frequency range of 125-4000Hz. The layers of thermal and acoustic insulation may be reversed with respect to the interior cladding.
