Glazing spacer bar
A glazing spacer bar 1 for separating glazing panes 8a, 8b in multiple glazed window units. The spacer bar is formed from a thermoplastic polymer and a blowing/foaming agent and has one or more cavities 2. The spacer bar may be hollow or porous and comprises a desiccant 12 in the form of a powder such as silica gel or desiccant beads. The spacer bar may comprise reinforcing material (5 figure 4) such as glass fibres, glass beads, glass bubbles, polymer fibres, ceramic fibres and or natural fibres. The spacer bar may comprise a UV stabilizer and be backed by a moisture vapour and or gas barrier such as metalized polymeric, polyester, multilayered polyethylene or a metalized polyester film/tape. The spacer bar body cross section may be continuous or have apertures 3 around its perimeter to allow the desiccant to absorb moisture inside the glazing unit. A later embodiment also relates to a method of manufacturing the spacer bar and its use in multiple pane glazing units.
