Anti-ballistic Structure
A blast-proof or bullet-proof structures, in particular, a structure comprising a wall made from a material comprising rubber in a cementitious material. An anti-ballistic structure including a wall made from a material comprising rubber pieces with embedded fibres in a cement matrix, the volume ratio of said rubber pieces and cement in a dry state is between 3:1 and 8:1. The rubber may be obtained from recycled tyres. The embedded fibres of the rubber particulates may extend to the outside of the particle, thus achieving bonding with the cement or concrete matrix. There may also be sand of less than 2 mm size present, wherein the volume ratio of sand to cement is between 1:1 and 2:1. In an embodiment, the material contains 55-80% rubber pieces, 8-25% cement and 10-23% sand (by volume). The material may be casted into blocks 8. The anti-ballistic wall may be a single skin wall (200-600 mm thick) or a double skin wall 200 (each skin 200-400 mm) with a 50-100 mm cavity 202 in between. The wall may have a cladding panel (30, fig 3) with a geogrid (32, fig 3) on one side.
