Cushioning and flotation for suspended work platform apparatus and method
Suspended work platforms are used on offshore wind turbines and other structures. One problem is they have to be transferred from the heaving deck of a vessel, limiting the sea state in which they can be transferred due to high shock loadings. The platform makes this process quicker, safer and easier allowing it to be transferred in higher sea states by carrying the suspended platform on the vessels deck with one or more cushioning and flotation devices 3 attached under it. The platform is attached to the offshore structure with suspension cables 1 and preferably lifts itself onto or off the deck with its winches 5. During this process the platform cushions any impacts between it and the vessels deck. Additionally, if the platform ends up in the water, the flotation of the device will keep it afloat. The cushioning and floatation devices 3 may be inflated tubes or other inflatable structures.
