Lock assembly and spindle therefor
The lock assembly has a latch (fig.1,14), a lock bolt, an actuator 20, a spindle comprising a first spindle part 16 and a second spindle part 18. The actuator has a central disk 22 and two outer disks 24, each disk has a non-circular hole 44 to receive the ends of the spindle so that rotating each spindle part rotates a respective outer disk, the second part also rotates the central disk. The first part has a smaller width end section (fig.4,62), preferably circular and slightly smaller than the minimum width of the opening in the central disk, so it does not engage it. The outer disks may have lugs 36 and aligned follower arms 34 with a gaps 38 to accommodate the lugs, the arms may be connected so they move together. The central disk may have a lug 30 and an aligned latch arm 26 with a gap 32 to accommodate the lug. Preferably the ends of each spindle part touch or engage one another within the hole of the central disk. The lock may have a housing and the spindle parts may have a circlip (fig.3,64) to limit their insertion.
