The stanchion mounting plate is a flat plate 1 that has a plurality of holes 5 for receiving roofing screws 9, and multiple mounting posts 3 projecting from one face of the plate. The mount is configured to receive a foot of a stanchion having a flange that includes a plurality of apertures through which the mounting posts are inserted. The diameter of the protruding posts may be larger than the diameter of the holes in the plate. Diametrically opposed indicators 7 may also be included to help align the mount. Also claimed is a method of mounting a stanchion, and a stanchion mounting system that includes the mount 1 and a stanchion 11 comprising a flange 13 that features through holes 15. The plate is intended to prevent the ingress of standing water through the screws when the stanchion is affixed to the mount with sealant.
