A roof tile has at least one hook or projection member 4 on the underside. The projection engages with a slot in the row of tiles underneath it. The tile may include a hole as the slot [Fig. 4] or the slot may exist in the gap between adjacent tiles [Fig. 3]. A tile may overlap more than one tile in the row below it. The tile may be held onto a moulded batten 3 by a clip 1. A slot may run up the pitch of the roof to allow for thermal expansion. This slot may also allow the gauge of the roof to vary. The slots may have a wider portion at the top to allow the projection to pass through. The objective of the hooks and holes is to allow tiles to engage reducing any lifting of the tiles in windy weather.
