The track 5 is attached to a building or structure 10 and has a front 25 and at least one side or lateral face 35 forming flat, outermost edges of the track, the front has an elongate opening 40 into an inner channel 45. The opening 40 may have lips 55 protruding perpendicularly from the front of the track, when the track is installed in a building with an outer layer or skin 150 a channel 190 is formed between the lip and the skin which may be filled with sealant 195. Preferably, the track is symmetrical with at least two side faces 35 and a rear 30 defining a rectangular cross-section track with a width greater than its depth. Parallel flanges 60a,60b may be provided on the rear for connecting a U-shaped bracket 20, fixable to the building 10 using bolts 90. The track may joined other tracks using a splice (fig.6,100); parallel pairs of extended tracks may be mounted vertically on the buildings outer surface (fig.14) into which a maintenance cradle (fig.15,200) may be installed by inserting an attachment member (fig.15,210) and guide (fig.15,205) into the track channels to prevent lateral cradle movement.
