Turnstile apparatus comprising a plurality of turnstile lanes 20, 21, camera and remote controller, the controller connected to the other components via a network and able to display video from the camera and generate buttons associated with individual lanes, with the buttons movable to positions near to the parts of the display showing the lanes that they control to provide a more easily understood layout. Multiple lanes may have buttons, and there may be at least two buttons per lane which may include separate entry and exit buttons. Buttons may allow free passage, require a credential or biometric reading, or may generate an alarm or lock passage. The display may be a touch screen, and may be used with a pointing device. The buttons may be freely movable by a user. There may be means for storing and displaying video information when triggered by an event. There may be a plurality of cameras, and the user may select which cameras image is viewed, and a camera may be positioned to face entering users or to obtain a birds eye view. There may be multiple remote controllers.
