A key shaped device 1 with a bow 2 graspable by a user and an elongate blade portion 3 with cuts, used to render a lock inoperable. The bow portion is detachable from the blade portion, blocking the lock but ensuring it remains locked. Preferably there is a sheer line 6 between the blade portion and bow portion of the key shaped device, allowing the bow to be snapped from the blade in such a way as to be permanently separated. The blade portion has a cut profile with an angled slope 4 and a square cut 5, designed to stop the bow from being removed as it will catch on the pins of the lock if there is an attempt to remove the blade.
