Method of fabricating a concrete slab system
A method of fabricating a concrete slab system includes the steps of, placing a bed of a first concrete 20 on a base, the bed having top 22, bottom 28 and edge 20E surfaces. The bed is exposed to a drying environment such that the top surface develops shrinkage cracks 24 and portions of the bed separate from the base (see figure 7) as the bed curls away from the base at its periphery. A force is applied to the top surface to induce non-shrinkage cracks 26 in the bed. The non-shrinkage 26 cracks extend to the beds bottom surface and may be wider than the shrinkage cracks. A layer of non-concrete material 30 is placed on the beds 20 top and edge surfaces to cover the first concrete bed. The non-concrete material and the bed are then covered with a second concrete having stretchable fibres 44 mixed therein.
