Patterned self-adhesive fibrous insulation material
Multilayer sheet material comprising a facing layer 1 adhered to a non-woven fibrous insulation 2, adhered to a discontinuous pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) faced layer 5 in contact with a peelable release paper or film 6. The material providing acoustic and thermal insulation. There is an optional second facing layer between the fibrous material and the adhesive layer. The adhesive is preferably a butyl adhesive and preferably present on 5-50 % of the surface, more preferably 20-30 %. The adhesive is preferably distributed in a pattern of separate geometric shapes. The adhesive is preferably repositionable. When the second facing layer is present, in regions without adhesive, the first and second facing layers are bonded to one another in a plurality of discrete areas which may be geometric shapes. The bonding may comprise compression of the insulation in the form of a weld. A viscoelastic layer 4, which may be a butyl polymer, may bond the first facing layer and fibrous material. The facing layer may be a metallic foil, preferably aluminium. Also included are claims to a kit containing the insulation and a method of applying the material.
