Ultrasonically welded mat unit and system thereof
The mat comprises quadrants defined by imaginary transverse and longitudinal midlines, upper and lower surfaces spanning the four quadrants, with a transversely extending rib in each of the first and third quadrants, and a longitudinally extending rib in each of the second and fourth quadrants. Each quadrant may have a plurality of respective transverse and longitudinal ribs integrally formed in a first layer defining the upper surface, the ribs defining gaps to permit debris removed from a shoe to fall through. Also claimed is a mat comprising quadrants and a first layer ultrasonically joined to a second layer at a weld point, the first layer having longitudinal ribs in the first and third quadrants and transverse ribs in the second and fourth quadrants, the second layer having transverse ribs in the first and third quadrants and longitudinal ribs in the second and fourth quadrants. Also claimed is a method comprising forming first and second layers of a mat, partially curing the layers, and welding the layers together at a plurality of points with no additional material bonding the layers. The mat may be non-vinyl thermoplastic elastomer (TPE).
