The shoot bolt guide device has a body (10 figure 2) with a channel 14 for receiving the shoot bolt, and a bearing surface (141 figure 4) for bearing against and guiding the position of the shoot bolt. The shoot bolt guide device can be used when installed to move the position of the shoot bolt to ensure good alignment and secure seating within a keep. A later embodiment relates to a locking mechanism comprising a shoot bolt and gearbox to move the bolt.
