The stick comprises a handle section 3, a hollow elongated shaft 3, an elongate actuator rod that slides within the hollow shaft, a lever handle 7 connected to the upper part of the actuator rod, an excrement retriever 9 connected to the lower end of the actuator and an excrement container. The lever handle may be located on the exterior of the shaft and may be connected to the upper end of the actuator rod by a rocking block and pin system. The retriever may comprise two arms connected by a hinge at the lower end of the actuator rod and the hinge may be a rotating hinge. The retriever may be located within the elongate shaft when not in use and the lower end of the shaft may comprise an elongate opening for the retriever to move from a non-working to a working position. Also claimed is a method of collecting animal excrement with the walking stick.
