A shut-off valve 10 comprises a valve housing 12,14 having a valve inlet 28, a valve outlet 30, a fluid flow channel (32 figure 4) extending between the valve inlet and the valve outlet and a valve closure member (34 figure 4) displaceable into the fluid flow channel to prevent fluid flow through the flow channel. The valve further comprises a volume within the housing for receiving a compressed absorbent body (42 figure 4) configured to displace the valve closure member (34 figure 4) into the fluid flow channel (32 figure 4) when expanded. The housing 12, 14 further comprises a closable aperture (52 figure 5C) which allows access to the volume for replacing the absorbent body. The housing 14 is preferably open on its under surface. The valve may comprise a spring (44 figure 4) to bias the closure member away from the fluid flow channel.
