A profile tool for use in construction, in particular brick or block laying. The tool comprises a vertical elongate staff 14 integral with a clamp. The jaws 1, 2 of the clamp each has a tang (8, 9 figure A) such that the integral clamp and staff can be secured to a course, or courses, or bricks or blocks. The jaws each further have adjusting screws 10 that can plumb or angle the staff. Bolts 12, 13 and hand wheels 12a, 13a can also plumb the staff, and a bolt 4 passes through both jaws. An intermediary stay (17 figures D-G) is secured to the staff, and thumbscrews (18, 19 figures D, E, G) can be used to secure and plumb the staff on an external corner, while hook bolts 24 (figure F) can be used on internal corners. An adjustable slide hitch (15 figure G) and/or stay 29 (figure K) is attached to the staff via a sliding plate (11 figures G, K). Parts are extruded in aluminium, steel or composite material.
