Double glazing unit and method
The multi-glazing unit 1 has two sheets of face to face glazing material 2, 4 separated by spacer components 8 around, but inwards of, the perimeter, the unit having a cavity 6, and a first layer of seal material 14, outside the spacer components, in the form of glass fused to the spacer components and to the face to face sheets to seal the perimeter of the glazing unit. The first layer of seal material may be applied by extrusion when in a molten state or may be applied by a thermal spray process in which glass lamella (26, Fig. 2) are deposited and covered by a waterproof epoxy layer (28, Fig. 2). The first layer may be between 15 microns and 20mm thick. A second layer, such as epoxy resin 16 and foil tape 18, may be applied outside the first layer. The spacer components 8 may be aluminum tubing, and the interior 10 may contain a desiccant to help maintain a dry cavity.
